Iran ‘Papeli’ to vie at Vesoul filmfest

Iranian documentary ‘Papeli’ has been selected to be screened at the 25th Vesoul International Film Festival of Asian Cinemas in France.

Directed by Mehdi Zamanpour-Kiasari, the film has been picked to attend the competition section of the festival.

The documentary narrates the story of a poor family who live in the northern regions of Iran. Some 25 years ago, when Zeinab was only 7-month-old, something dreadful happened to her dad. He fell off a tree, he consequently lost power to walk as he had damaged his spinal cord in the unfortunate event. Now, Zeinab and her mother must take care of him and also work hard to make ends meet.

‘Papeli’ has already attended some international festivals, including the 13th International Orthodox Film Festival and the 2017 Kazan Film Festival, both in Russia.

Founded in 1995, the Vesoul International Film Festival of Asian Cinemas aims to reveal and promote cinema of Asian countries. It seeks to enhance dialogue and discover other cultures through cinema.

The latest edition of the festival is slated for February 5-12, 2019, in the French city of Vesoul.
